Acronym

DESH - Disproportionately Enlarged Subarachnoid-space Hydrocephalus

Disproportionately Enlarged Subarachnoid-space Hydrocephalus

Magnetic resonance imaging finding in normal pressure hydrocephalus

Expansion

Disproportionately Enlarged Subarachnoid-space Hydrocephalus

Purpose

Ventricles enlarged disproportionately more than sulci

Clinical Context

Disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid-space hydrocephalus shows disproportionate ventricular enlargement relative to sulcal prominence. Evan’s index (max lateral ventricular width divided by inner skull diameter) greater than 0.3 suggests normal pressure hydrocephalus.

  • Normal pressure hydrocephalus
  • Hydrocephalus

Key Points

  • Disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid-space hydrocephalus on magnetic resonance imaging is imaging marker for normal pressure hydrocephalus; Evan’s index greater than 0.3 supports normal pressure hydrocephalus
