Purpose

Detects intra-abdominal and pericardial haemorrhage in trauma; guides resuscitation and operating room decisions

Clinical Context

FAST takes 2 to 3 minutes. Views include Morrison pouch (right upper quadrant), spleen (left upper quadrant), pelvis, and pericardium. Excellent sensitivity for significant haemorrhage (approximately 200 to 400 millilitres).
