Acronym

LDCT - Low-Dose CT

Low-Dose CT

Reduced-dose CT screening for lung cancer in high-risk patients

Expansion

Low-Dose CT

Purpose

Annual screening of smokers using approximately 1.5 mSv or less

Clinical Context

LDCT screening in age 50 to 80 with at least 20 pack-year smoking history. Studies show 15 to 20 percent mortality reduction. Uses approximately 1 to 2 mSv (cf. standard CT approximately 5 to 10 mSv).

  • Chest X-ray
  • Lung-RADS

Key Points

  • LDCT reduces dose while maintaining nodule detection sensitivity; superior to CXR for cancer mortality reduction
