Image-guided thermal ablation using microwave energy
Expansion
Microwave Ablation
Purpose
Alternative to radiofrequency ablation for tumour treatment
Clinical Context
Microwave ablation uses electromagnetic radiation (915 megahertz or 2.45 gigahertz). Faster heating than radiofrequency ablation. Less dependent on tissue conductivity.

Key Points
- Microwave ablation faster than radiofrequency ablation; may have better penetration in larger lesions
