Anterior Thigh Compartment

A memory aid for the muscles and nerve of the anterior thigh.

Expansion

Quadriceps femoris, sartorius, iliopsoas and pectineus, supplied mainly by the femoral nerve

Expansion

  • Muscles - quadriceps femoris, sartorius, iliopsoas and pectineus
  • Nerve - the femoral nerve (pectineus may also receive an obturator branch)
  • Actions - flexion of the hip and extension of the knee

Sartorius is the longest muscle in the body and flexes, abducts and laterally rotates the hip while also flexing the knee.
