Expansion
Runs in front of the medial malleolus up the medial leg to drain into the femoral vein
Expansion
- Begins on the medial (great toe) side of the dorsal venous arch
- Passes anterior to the medial malleolus - a reliable landmark
- Runs up the medial leg and thigh, a hand’s breadth behind the patella at the knee
- Drains into the femoral vein at the saphenofemoral junction in the groin
It is the longest vein in the body and is commonly harvested for coronary artery bypass grafts.
