Expansion
Supplies gluteus maximus; injury causes difficulty rising, climbing and standing from sitting
Expansion
- Supplies - gluteus maximus, the main extensor of the hip
- Roots - L5 to S2
- Injury - difficulty standing up from a seated position, climbing stairs and rising from a squat, though level walking is relatively spared
Unlike the superior gluteal nerve, it does not cause a Trendelenburg gait because it does not supply the hip abductors.
