Lower Limb Pulses

A memory aid for the four palpable pulses of the lower limb.

Expansion

Femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial and dorsalis pedis pulses

Expansion

  • Femoral - at the mid-inguinal point, halfway between the anterior superior iliac spine and the pubic symphysis
  • Popliteal - deep in the popliteal fossa with the knee slightly flexed
  • Posterior tibial - just behind and below the medial malleolus
  • Dorsalis pedis - on the dorsum of the foot, lateral to the extensor hallucis longus tendon between the first two metatarsals
