The medial plantar nerve behaves like the median nerve and the lateral plantar nerve like the ulnar nerve
Expansion
Both are branches of the tibial nerve:
- Medial plantar nerve - the “median of the foot”: supplies abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis, flexor hallucis brevis and the first lumbrical, plus sensation to the medial sole and medial three and a half toes
- Lateral plantar nerve - the “ulnar of the foot”: supplies all the other intrinsic foot muscles and the lateral sole and one and a half toes
