Expansion
Medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries and the perforating arteries
Expansion
The profunda femoris arises from the femoral artery and gives:
- Medial circumflex femoral artery - the main supply to the femoral head
- Lateral circumflex femoral artery - supplies the anterior thigh
- Perforating arteries - pierce adductor magnus to supply the posterior thigh
These branches form part of the cruciate and trochanteric anastomoses around the hip.
