Expansion
The angle between the pull of the quadriceps and the patellar tendon, normally about 13 to 18 degrees
Expansion
- The Q (quadriceps) angle is formed between a line from the anterior superior iliac spine to the centre of the patella and a line from the patella to the tibial tuberosity
- Normal - roughly 13 to 18 degrees, a little higher in women
- A larger angle increases the lateral pull on the patella, raising the risk of patellar maltracking and dislocation
Vastus medialis obliquus resists this lateral pull and helps keep the patella tracking straight.
